Head coach Andy Muse has been a well-known name around his community and around the high school basketball scene in North Carolina. Coming into his 27th season at Mount Tabor, he has coached some terrific players and some special teams. This season though has the chance to be yet another one for him and the Spartans. With their last state title coming in 2009, the Spartans are off to yet another fantastic start sitting undefeated at 17-0.
Coach Muse is a high energy type of coach, one that wants to get the best out of his players. One can see that his energy on the sideline feeds into his players on the court.
After watching Mount Tabor at home secure a 74-55 win vs. Ben L. Smith, you could only enjoy how his players played; with tremendous heart, toughness, and with a chip on their shoulders, looking to prove that they belong in the discussion as one of the top teams in the state.
They showed it in impressive style.
Mount Tabor’s balance and grit on both ends of the floor was tremendous. They left it all out on the court, just like their head coach. And what is even better to watch is how they play like a team; they support each other, players step up when called upon, and they have a tremendous balance on the floor.
That is exactly what Coach Muse said after the game as well.
“We just wanted to use our quickness,” he said to Phenom Hoops after the win vs. Smith. “We got a bunch of pieces, we got low post pieces that can score, multiple point guards, and we got shooters.”
Everyone knows their role on their team and there isn’t any superstar on the roster, just scholarship-worthy, physical, gritty players that play their heart out and play to their strengths. And sitting at 17-0 so far in the season, it certainly has been a joy for Coach Muse to coach this squad.
