What Was Recently Said:

Starting things off, we look at a player who made a nice impact despite being the smallest camper on this team, Malik McCotter. He’s a quick, scrappy guard prospect with a useful penetration sense and the ability to finish at a solid rate. McCotter is a capable on-ball defender who utilizes his quickness to keep opponents in front. He operates with an active motor on both ends of the floor. Next in his development process is working on the use of his off-hand, as it would make him a more reliable ball-handler. Coach Broome on McCotter: “Malik is a quick guard. He played with more confidence as the day went on. Needs to work on ball-handling under pressure and developing his consistency from beyond the arc.” McCotter enjoyed a solid showing during his time at camp, and will be a prospect to watch progress over the coming years at Chambers.

What To Expect:

Given the departed pieces from Chambers, one should expect McCotter to take a definite leap—both in terms of production and development. He’s slightly undersized, yet has no issue asserting himself on either end of the floor. McCotter is a steady, reliable point guard with quality vision, perimeter shooting, and decision making. He does a quality job of setting up the offense, creating shots for others, and asserting his scoring presence as needed. McCotter utilizes his quick first step to effectively touch the paint and make proper reads with the ball in his hands. He’s a capable off-ball threat, but typically finds more success as a lead creator. McCotter also provides a quality defensive presence, particularly for his size, and consistently battles to make hustle plays. It’ll be exciting to watch him progress over the coming sesaons.
