NC Phenom 150 Late Bloomers

At the 16th Annual NC Phenom 150 camp, we once again got an opportunity to see players that we may not gotten a chance to watch during the high school season. We have often stated, “it’s not where you start that counts, but where you finish,” and this custom made for players in the 6’7 range or taller. Now, let’s take a closer look at some of the players that grabbed our attention and could be on the recruiting radar sooner rather than later.

No. 146 6’7 2022  Jaydin Spillman-Martin (Davie County)

We’re talking about a lengthy and fluid hybrid forward that runs the floor extremely well, not to mention touch and range. Spillman-Martin averaged 13.5 PPG for the camp, has a nice offensive skill set, but could be a difference maker on the defensive side of the court. As he continues to develop, add strength and weight, we strongly feel Spillman-Martin could become a scholarship prospect at the D1 level. (Won Mr. Defense Award)

No 141 6’7 2021 Smedes York (Broughton)

York has good fundamentals, high basketball IQ, and understands the game and his role. In one situation where his teammate was shooting a free throw, he did a nice reverse spin to avoid the box out on the free throw situation. He runs the floor the floor fluidly and works for low-post position, boxes out, not to mention he moves well without the ball. He is a willing listener and has a great work ethic and attitude. York averaged 7.0 PPG with limited scoring opportunities.

No. 148 6’10 2022 Micah Handlogten (Southlake Christian)

Micah Handlogten has excellent length, good hands and mobility in the paint. More importantly, he is a willing passer and moves extremely well without the ball. Handlogten averaged 8.5 PPG, but impressed us with his grit and toughness mixing it up for loose balls and rebounds. It’s easy to see the upside and potential for the intriguing and developing “big.”
