Afternoon Standouts by Kevin Dawkins

NC Phenom 150 Girls

No.8: 5’3 2020 Jessica Walton (Douglas Byrd High School/ Hope Mills NC)

Quick guard who gave maximum effort on the defense end of the floor which resulted in numerous steals and layup opportunities

No.15: 5’5 2020 Areina Harris (Rolesville High School/Raleigh NC)

If there was a let it fly award she would have won. Areina can really shoot the ball made multiple 3’s on the day with many coming off the dribble. Areina also did a great job in transition and getting her teammates layup opportunities.

No. 16: 5’5 2022 Jada Douthit (Heritage High School/Wake Forest NC)

If you are open Jada will find you she may even find you when you’re not open. Jada was dropping dimes all day she also had the prettiest pass that I saw during the event a one-handed pass from half court to a cutting teammate. Jada was highly effective in other areas of the game, was able to fight with bigger defenders to secure rebounds and convert layups through contact.

No. 18: 55′ 2022 Kaya Goldsby (Jack Britt High School/Fayetteville NC)

Kaya never got bothered or sped up to defensive pressure. Crafty ball handler who didn’t waste dribbles. Kaya got to the spots she needed with one or two dribbles found lanes to the basket or found the open man for easy shots.

No. 24: 5’6 2021 Ashley Woodfin (Trinity Academy/Raleigh, NC)

Ashley can play on or off the ball she is effective playing both. Ashley moves well off the ball where she can heat up quickly was able to make multiple mid-ranges and 3 pointers through her 2 afternoon games.

No. 32 5’7 2023 Samyha Suffren ( Ridge Road Middle School/ Charlotte, NC)

Samyha was so dominate in the middle school division she had to be moved up to High School. That didn’t stop the show she was still able to get to the basket hit 3’s and make an impact on defense. Suffren is next up in the Charlotte area.

No. 38: 5’8 2023 Joelle Davis (Durham Academy/Durham NC)

Joelle is a bigger guard who was able to use her size and athleticism overpower the other guards in the middle school division. Joelle put pressure on the defense each game with her 3-point range. At one point in her last game she made a pull up 3 on break got a steal finished with layup and the following possession went in for another layup.
