Over the past two months, MidState Magic has clearly been one of the top independent travel ball programs across the Carolinas. They have available college-worthy seniors and a slew of intriguing juniors within their roster. Due to their powerful athleticism, appealing frames, and constant production, guys like Taky Prosper, Kotchi Wilfried, Tyshaun Goldston, and Joel Deigna receive a lot of the headlines. However, the pairing of Javier Tinnin and Josiah Love are quietly two of the more important pieces for this group. Both players understand how to consistently make their presence felt. Let’s take a closer look at each…

It’s easy to see everything Tinnin does, specifically as a floor general who gets others involved, picks his spots as a scorer, and makes his presence felt defensively at the point of attack. He’s a point guard who displays IQ and quickness with the ball in his hands. Tinnin plays with pace and understands how to penetrate, collapse the defense, and make the proper read. He’s a quality shooting threat and finishes well for his size. Defensively, he does a great job of playing with toughness and keeping opposing ball-handlers in front. He has the tools to play at the next level.

Meanwhile, Love stands out in a variety of ways. Not only is a fairly well-rounded player who is willing to make hustle plays and do the dirty work, but his long list of intangibles make him a phenomenal teammate. Love makes the extra pass, defends the best opposing player, and routinely battles on the glass. He’s able to adapt to several different roles and does whatever it takes to benefit the team. He’s a useful shooting threat who fills in the gaps well. Love communicates and naturally leads by example on both ends of the floor. Between his physicality, skillset, and overall mentality, he should appeal to various college coaches.
