We’ve seen a lot of players come through our doors over the years, varying in appearance, skill level, and everything in between. We decided to put forth a “Getting to Know” series on some players who have attended events but still remain on the lesser-known side of things. Each of these prospects embody being a student-athlete and getting it done in the classroom as well as on the basketball court, and today’s edition will take a closer look at Mags Swinger of Concord Academy.
We’ve seen Swinger various times, including with the Carolina Riptide, where we stated, “Magnus is coming off a solid junior year at Concord Academy and has had an immediate impact for this Riptide 2023 NC team. Magnus is a double-double type player and is a great “glue guy”. His ability to shoot the 3-ball also makes him tough to guard. He is off to a great start so far since joining the Carolina Riptide and is going to be one to watch this AAU season. He is poised to have a great summer and senior year at Concord Academy.” Which was later followed by, “Though he’s not typically seen as a primary option for this squad, Swinger enjoyed an undeniably impressive showing today. He’s a long, wiry wing/forward who plays well within the team concept on both ends of the floor. Swinger is a reliable shooter, steady defender, and generally unselfish piece offensively. He works hard, makes hustle plays, and capitalizes on scoring opportunities.”
While he may not get as much press or grab as many headlines as others, there’s no denying the value that Swinger brings to the table as a high-motor utility guy. He’s a well-rounded player who is capable of doing a little bit of everything and naturally affecting all facets of the game. Swinger is a reliable shooting threat from beyond the arc, but also moves well without the ball and finishes nicely through contact. He’s an active defender who willingly makes hustle plays and accepts a lesser role for the betterment of the team. Swinger rebounds well for his size/position and understands how to pitch it ahead, but can also handle the ball in transition if necessary. He’s adaptable and operates very well within his role on both ends of the floor. Expect Swinger to keep making an impact.
