Oak Hill Academy 90 Bull City National 67

Phenom Hoops traveled to Mouth of Wilson, Virginia for a Saturday afternoon contest between Bull City National and Oak Hill Academy. Playing in its first home game in over three months, Oak Hill was eager to play on the court named after their Hall of Fame coach, Steve Smith. It’s always tough to beat Oak Hill at Turner Gymnasium. Matter of fact, it’s tough to beat Oak Hill in general. Oak Hill is led by one of the greatest coaches of all time and his resume speaks for itself.

Bull City National started the game with a lot of confidence and started the game on a 20-7 run. Nothing could go wrong for Bull City. They hit back-to-back three pointers off the glass and they felt like they had a legitimate chance of pulling off the upset. However, the second quarter was all Oak Hill and it turned into the AJ Williams Show. He knocked down six three pointers in the second quarter, which allowed Oak Hill to go there own 29-8 run. From that point on, it was all Oak Hill and they came away with an impressive 90-67 home win. Now, let’s take a closer look at the standout players of the game.

Standout Players

AJ Williams      6’1       2021    Oak Hill 

AJ Williams was magnificent in their game vs. Bull City. He brings shooting, scoring, and energy off the bench for Oak Hill. He has a beautiful shot and can absolutely fill it up from the perimeter. AJ has a quick release and every shot he shoots; you feel like it is going in.  AJ finished the game making eight 3-pointers. If you are looking for a knockdown shooter AJ is someone to definitely have on your radar. 

Camryn Carter            6’2       2021    Oak Hill 

Camryn is a quick, explosive guard who can score in a variety of ways. He is really good when he is getting downhill and finishing at the rim. He is a more than capable shooter from the perimeter shooting 40.1% for the season. He knocked in three 3-pointers in the game vs. Bull City. Camryn has the ability to create for himself and his teammates. Camryn does a great job impacting the game on the defensive side of the ball getting steals and deflections. He finished the game with 21 points. 

Caleb Foster    6’3       2023    Oak Hill 

Caleb Foster is one the best guards in the country. Not too many players have started at Oak Hill as a sophomore. He plays the game at his own pace. Caleb has a high basketball IQ and makes everyone around him better. He is a knock down shooter from the perimeter. Caleb is shooting 44.9% from three this year. He is the type of player you want to lead your team. He is going to be special. Caleb finished the game with 16 points, 6 assist, and 4 rebounds. 

MJ Rice            6’6       2022    Oak Hill 

MJ will be one of the strongest players on the court almost every time they play. Even though he is athletic and has a college ready frame, he brings a great skillset and versatility to the game. He does a tremendous job using his body on drives and finishing through contact. You can easily see why MJ Rice is one of the best players in the country. He finished the game with 16 points. He is the leading scorer on the season for the Warriors averaging 19ppg. 

LJ Thomas       6’3       2022    Bull City National

LJ Thomas is one of the best scorers in the state. He has a great frame and uses his body really well on drives. He is one of the best at creating his own shot off the bounce. He can get it going in a hurry. LJ has the ability to make tough shots look easy. We can definitely see why LJ Thomas is receiving high major offers. With his size and scoring ability he will be getting more interest. Finished the game with 27 points, knocking in four 3’s. 

Treyvon Byrd  6’5       2022    Bull City National 

Treyvon Byrd is electric in transition. He opened the game with a coast-to-coast dunk in transition. He is at his best when he is attacking the rim and creating plays for himself and others. The long, athletic, versatile wing can make an impact on both sides of the ball. He has the ability to alter and block shots. Also, uses his length to get steals in the passing lanes. Byrd has continued to work on his shot from the perimeter. He finished the game with 15 points. 

Luc Therrien    6;9       2021    Bull City National

Luc is always one of the hardest players on the court. He competes at a high level and brings energy and leadership every time he steps on the court. The big guy rebounds the ball really well and had a really nice put back slam. He has good defensive instincts and timing on blocking and altering shots around the rim. Luc finished the game with 10 points.
