Each and every time Phenom Hoops gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day.  It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.

Here is the latest commitment.

Player: Ja’Merl Brockington
Class: 2023
Committed to: Mount Olive

What He Said:

Phenom: What made Mount Olive the place for you in the end'
Brockington: I felt like Coach Hines kept it real with me throughout this whole recruitment process.  And I felt like he is going to let me play right away.  I just feel like I can develop my whole game and become a better person and player.

Phenom: What are you hoping to bring to the program'
Brockington: Go in right away and make an impact as a leader and just be a dog on both sides of the floor.

What Was Said:

“Next, we look at a player who made a lasting impression among the top overall performers on display, Jamerl Brockington. He’s a smart, steady, well-rounded point guard prospect with leadership qualities and the ability to set the tone on both ends of the floor. Brockington comfortably controlled the action, set up others, and applied efficient scoring pressure within the flow of the team structure. He made intelligent decisions, handled the ball with care, and overwhelmed his assignment defensively. Brockington affects all facets of the game, and can effectively produce from either guard position—though he’s typically better as a primary ball-handler. Brockington understands how to read the defense, force opponents to collapse, and locate the best available shot with relative ease. Next in his development process is continuing to add strength, as it’ll only help prepare him for the next level. Coach Mims on Brockington: “I felt like Jamerl was one of the best playmakers at camp. He can work on improving his pace and midrange pull-up. Tough ball player!” Brockington proved to be an asset during his time at camp, securing the Mr. Playmaker award, and should be poised for a highly productive senior campaign at Lumberton.”

“Brockington has been a name we have mentioned before, especially when you look at what he provides for his high school team. He puts up some impressive stats and seems to have his hand in a bit of everything.  At the Top 80, he did just that, showing how crafty he can be in getting to spots and creating, creating well for others, and just having his presence felt in an array of ways.  There was a reason why he was named Mr. Playmaker and it will be interesting to see how his recruitment continues to elevate after this event and season.”
