Back in 2022, we had a chance to head down to the Outer Banks and get our eyes on some very interesting prospects who had yet to see their recruitment take off. One of those players was 2025 Chance Mallory, as he held one offer from NJIT at the time… look where he is today (Read Here). The other player that captured our eyes was 2025 6’6 Austin Williford, and we sit here today to say that this is a player who should see his stock rise even more.

Williford is a do-it-all type player who has a tremendous knowledge of the game, impacts the game in a variety of ways and areas, and brings a lot of versatility to the court for his team. He is an effective scorer from inside and out, brings athleticism in finishing at the rim, knocking down shots, creating off the bounce, attacking the boards, and makes good reads as well.  He has shown that before and continues to do so, which is why schools should be making him a bigger target.

Boston University is his most recent offer, along with Mount St. Mary’s, Saint Joseph’s, Albany, and Liberty. But, as we said back in 2022, Williford should be and is going to be a target for many other programs come this summer and down the road.

What Has Been Said:

“This was our first viewing of Williford and we came away impressed with what we saw.  You could see that he understands the game well at his age, coming from a basketball background.  He has a great skill set and impacts the game in a variety of ways on both ends. Williford understands how to be the spotlight when needed but also doesn’t need to be the spotlight to be effective. He shot the ball well, scored off the bounce, got to the basket well, filled up the stat sheet, and made big plays in big moments.”

“Williford is another new name for us at Phenom Hoops but he really captured our eyes with his play. The 6’4 prospect is the son of Virginia assistant coach Jason Williford, and one can see that he has a great understanding of the game. He made impact plays all over the court, whether it was knocking down shots from multiple levels, showing his athleticism on the floor, filling up the stat sheet, or showing his IQ as a player. He already holds an offer from Liberty but do believe more offers will be coming his way.”
