Yes, we have written ad nauseum about Phillips in the past. This is something we understand, but we continue to come across new information about him, that makes his current state of recruitment (or lack there of) puzzling.

If you haven’t read our most recent write up about Phillips take a look here as our Rick Lewis dove in last week. However, since then we have filmed Phillips (click above) and seen his high school stats, which caused us to feel like we have to write something more about him as more to the story needs to be shared.

With all of this talk about winning and wanting winners, Phillips may be the biggest “winner” the state of North Carolina has to offer. In fact, over the past three years, as the starting point guard for 4A South Central High School, Phillips has amassed a 71-4 combined record. That is a 95% winning percentage, WINNER. This year’s South Central team is currently ranked 11th USA Today High School Sports’ Chosen 25.

71-4 is for the team, sure he has had incredible talent surrounding him for these three years, including another scholarship senior guard in Jahzeer Baker and a 6’10” top 50 prospect going to UNC with Dayron Sharpe. However, Phillips has produced in a major way himself. Over his previous two season, sophomore and junior years, Phillips is 67-161 from beyond the arc. That is a 42% 3-point shooter. As the starting point guard on last season’s 27-1 team, Phillips averaged 4 steals and a 4/1:0.7 Assists:Turnovers ratio.

You’re telling me, there is a 6’1″ point guard, playing in in the state of North Carolina’s (the Hoop State) largest school classification who shoots over a 40% clip, doesn’t turn the ball over, is a ball hawk on defense and has won 95% of his high school games over his last three seasons as a starter'! h yeah, he’s also averaged 15.6 points during this time frame…Coaches, what are we missing'! Heck, what are you missing'!

Over the past week, the likes of Towson, Elon, Western Carolina and UNC-Asheville have offered. Well done! However, the clock is on, his senior year is winding down. Winners don’t just grow on trees.
