At the beginning of each new year, Phenom Hoops works to assemble a series of articles centered around unsigned senior prospects. Last season, hundreds of players from North Carolina went on to play at the Division I, II, III or NAIA levels, and that number looks likely to continue increasing with the current senior class. Typically, we take a closer look at guys who are overlooked and underrated, and today’s edition will highlight Cekhi Hill of Bull City Prep and Mint Hill Lakers.

Hill has been somewhat of a new face during this spring season, as our Patrick O’Brien states, Hill opened a few more eyes his way as he could be a late addition to a program.  The 6’4 prospect plays with a strong motor and good athleticism in his game.  He was tremendous in being able to break down his defenders, attack the defense off the dribble, and finish around and at the rim. He made several plays out in transition but also is willing to battle on the floor.  Hill flourished in showing a strong combination of size, skill, and bounce to go with his motor.”

We’ve seen Hill perform several times over the recent months, and it’s clear that he has the makings of a college-level prospect. He’s a long, fluid athlete with a strong frame, high motor, and fairly well-rounded skillset. Hill is comfortable with the ball in his hands, displaying the ability to finish around the basket, hit jumpers, and attack off the bounce. His combination of length, skill, and athleticism naturally cause matchup problems for opponents. Hill prefers to get downhill and apply pressure around the basket, where he finishes with either hand and effectively through contact. However, he’s a capable shooter and willing passer. Hill offers a physical defensive presence and high motor on the glass. It’s strange to see his lack of recruitment, as he certainly has the tools to be a difference-maker at the next level. Expect college coaches to start laying groundwork sooner than later.
