11:00 am – CLT Performance Institute vs. Springdale Prep

Day 2 got underway here at Davidson Day, with two new yet intriguing programs taking the court: CPI and Springdale Prep. CPi came out strong and active early, but Springdale Prep started to use its size and defense to help it jump out to a double-digit first-quarter lead. CPI battled right back, though, led by its talented freshman, JJ Sati-Grier, cutting the lead down to 31-26 at halftime. In the third quarter, both teams were battling and it seemed that no team was going to run away in this one, as CPI continued to chip away and keep this a close game. It wasn’t until the fourth quarter that CPI regained the lead, but both teams traded baskets back and forth in the game’s last four minutes. Tied at 58 with under 30 seconds to go, neither team was able to find a good look and we went into overtime. In overtime, it was Springdale Prep that came out strong and regained the momentum, as 2025 Elijah Mobley led the charge. Springdale Prep was able to jump out with a lead and never look back, eventually securing the hard-fought win.

Next game on the schedule, CCDS and Gaston Christian went to battle for Game 3. Nick Diaz was the go to player for CCDS, being assertive and finding ways to get to the line. But Cam Newman was able to answer and helped Gaston Christian hold a 24-19 halftime lead. Gaston Christian started to get others involved, including 2025 Dario Williams who finished with a double-double in this matchup. Newman and Williams combined for 44 of the team’s 60 points, while Daz led CCDS with 22 points. In the end though, it was Gaston Christian from start to finish, securing the 60-47 victory.

3:30 pm – Victory Christian vs. Queens Grant

Next game up, we have two programs from last weekend’s matchup here at the Phenom Tip-Off, both searching for a win in front of a packed house. Both teams came out strong early on with VCCS taking an early 18-14 lead after the first quarter and eventually leading 31-25 at halftime. 2026 Justyn Whitfield led the way early on with four 3’s to lead the charge for VCCS, and he continued his strong play throughout the rest of the game. Abubakar Cham was another big piece both offensively and on the boards as well. Queen’s Grant was more of a balanced attack with 2028 Chase Smith leading the way. In the second half, it was a back-and-forth type game with both team’s trading blows and the lead. But it was VCCS who had the last punch, allowing its defense to turn into offense and ultimately help seal the victory.

Final: VCCS 56 – Queen’s Grant 48

VCCS: Justyn Whitfield 20pts, Abubakar Cham 12pts, Christian Petty 10pts
Queen: Chase Smith 14pts, Wesley White 7pts, Ian Howard 7pts

Next game up, it was Christ School and Carmel Christian that went to battle. Carmel was missing its star in 2025 Bryce Slay and Christ School looked to take advantage of that early and often. They were able to jump out to an early double-digit lead led by 2025 Zymicah Wilkins and company, and they simply never looked back. Jumping out early and increasing that in the second and third quarter, it eventually hit the 40-point mark in the second half and that is all she wrote for this one. 6:30 pm – Combine Academy vs. Caldwell Academy

In one of the best games of the night, two of the top teams in the state looked to battle it out in what was an offensive thriller. Points were coming from all over, as these teams looked to get out and run, push in transition, and fill it up. But it was Combine’s starters that really had it cooking early, scoring 49 points in the first half and holding a 49-26 lead. 2025 Jaylen Cross was the go-to guy for Caldwell Academy but they found themselves in a big hole. Combine’s guard continued to get things going in the second half and Caldwell Academy continued to fight til the end. However, the play of Yohance Connor, Kaden Magwood, and others brought an offensive balanced attack that couldn’t be slowed down for much of the game. It is what helped them secure an impressive 90-76 victory.

Final: Combine Academy 90 – Caldwell Academy 76

Combine: Yohance Connor 28pts, Kaden Magwood 23pts, Josiah Parker 22pts
Caldwell: Jaylen Cross 31pts, Cole Cloer 16pts

8:00 pm – Davidson Day vs. Millbrook

Last game of the day brought Millbrook from the Raleigh area to Davidson Day for a big-time matchup to end what was a great even. Millbrook came out scrappy and with some energy but Davidson Day started to flex its own muscles behind the play of 2025 Isaiah Denis, 2026 Aj Washington, 2025 Levon Jacobs, and 2026 Will Stevens. The balanced offensive attack is what allowed Davidson Day to jump out to a lead after the first quarter and only improve that lead by halftime, leading 43-20.
