Player: Yohan Gutierrez
Class: 2025

The class of 2025 in North Carolina is shaping up quite nicely early on, as there are several college programs that aren’t wasting any time in checking out the talent and offering early on. One player that will be interesting to watch continue to develop is 2025 6’7 Yohan Gutierrez. He was part of an exciting team at Liberty Heights last year and is getting a better chance to showcase his talent and development with Upward Stars.
Phenom Hoops was one of the first in the region to see Gutierrez at Liberty Heights’ media day before the season started, as we had this to say about his game.
“Start putting him down as one to get to know, because he will be up there. 6’6, long frame, and very skilled for a young prospect. Smooth release on his shot, agile, and fluid in scoring in an array of ways.”
Gutierrez had his moments of flash this past season but with a veteran and experienced team, minutes were limited at times. But it also gave him time to learn more about the game, develop as a player, and get stronger, all of which he has done. And now with a year under his belt here, Gutierrez is showing more of how he can be a tough matchup at 6’7 and with his fluidity and versatility on the court.
This is why schools like East Carolina, Portland, and now most recently, Troy, have all offered him early on. And we have a strong feeling that that list will only continue to grow as he continues to develop as a player. But, even though still early, one can see the potential in this young man.
