Its that time of year again. The high school season has ended, AAU season is almost here so that means it is time for the annual Phenom 150 in Greensboro NC. This session saw 140 kids come through the doors all looking to make a name for themselves on the hardwood. Several did just that with strong showings on the day. Some of the players you need to know are as follows:

Tyzhaun Claude, 6’7 2018 F at Goldsboro HS – Great combo of size and strength here for this productive unsigned senior. Showed well all day long with his ability to work the glass as well as score at all 3 levels. Physically he is ready for the next level as is, so when he gets to a college conditioning program there is potential for him to take another step forward. The effort on the defensive end needs to be more consistent but, the tools are here for him to be a factor at the next level.

Takim Bond, 5’9 2020 G at Ashbrook HS – Bond was by far one of the quickest kids in this event. His crossover is blink and you miss it fast and he has a “by-you” gear that most can’t keep up with. His size is a drawback, but he gets around this with a nice pull up jumper and a pretty floater he can go to as needed. He is a bona-fide P.I.T.B . (pain in the butt) on the defensive end as he is hard to shake once he locks on. The stock on this kid will go as high as the tape measure does. One to keep an eye on.

Garrett Hein, 6’7 2019 F at Hickory Ridge HS – Got to see this kid go twice in this event and th more we saw, the more he grew on us as a prospect to watch. Kid just plays hard and does things out on the floor that go unnoticed if you are not focusing in on his game. Garrett will work the glass, handle the rock some, score in and around the basket, and make good decisions out on the floor. He will need to get stronger and finish better around the hoop as he develops but it is the little things that set him apart. Nice showing here at this event.

Myles Hunter, 6’5 2019 F at North Meck HS – Long athlete looks made to play the game of hoops. He has the broad shoulders and long arms you look for and the frame that you can add muscle to easy. He was all over the glass today on both ends of the floor and showed that springy explosion that gets you excited about his potential. He will step out and show you the jumper, but this part of his game still needs some refinement. More athlete than player at this point but there is a lot to like if I am a coach at the next level looking for athletic length.

Holland Baynard, 6’4 2019 F at New Hanover HS – This is another of those hard hat and lunch pail type kids that we love to watch. Kid proves that production is more often a by-product of effort with how he plays. Great motor and strength along with natural instincts for the game allows him to be at the right spot at the right time more often than not. This is how you want your upperclassmen to play. Not sure on the ceiling here but smart grind it out kids like this always seem to find their way onto a roster at the next level.
