On May 17-19, Phenom Hoops will host our first Live period of the spring season with our G3 Showcase in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The event is set to have dozens of college players from multiple states and various areas throughout the Carolinas. Over the next week, we will be taking a closer look at some of the players that college coaches should be prioritizing. In this article, we will be taking a closer look at Taky Prosper of Mid State Magic.

It’s amazing how much can change over the course of a year. Not even twelve months ago, Prosper was almost a completely different player. While his foundational tools and skillset were the same, it’s difficult to say anything other than positives about his growth on the court. Prosper’s feel has drastically improved in all areas of the game. He’s shown much more offensive polish while maintaining his nonstop motor and physically overwhelming presence as a defender and rebounder.

Prior to the travel ball season, we stated, “Prosper has enjoyed a highly productive senior campaign. He’s currently averaging 16.7 PPG, 13.6 RPG, 2.8 APG, 1.3 BPG, and 1.7 SPGA while shooting 60% from the floor and 74.5% from the line. Prosper is a physically imposing forward who utilizes his length, motor, and toughness to consistently cause problems. He finishes well around the basket, both above and below the rim, and runs the floor properly in transition. Prosper consistently boxes out, secures rebounds, and converts on second-chance opportunities on a regular basis. He’s a great teammate and team-first player who simply knows how to outwork opponents on both ends of the floor. Prosper continues to trend up and has the tools to be a potential gem for college coaches to pursue”

Different than a lot of the prospects that college coaches will be eyeing, Prosper is available as a prospect in the Class of 2024. It probably goes without saying, but he’s undoubtedly a college-level player. Even as the recruiting landscape has shifted, someone like Prosper has the tools to be an amazing late addition. At 6-foot-7, he’s a long, athletic forward with an unselfish, blue-collar approach to the game. Prosper battles for every rebound, defends multiple positions, and continues to showcase a blossoming offensive identity. He still finishes well around the basket and lurks effectively for lobs and putbacks, but it’s clear that he’s getting more comfortable as a creator and perimeter shooter. Given everything stated, Prosper should be a target for varying levels of programs.
