Dutch Fork High School has traditionally been known as a football power. Even to this day, they will always compete for state and regional championships in that sport. Well Head Coach Matt Brown has himself a crew of players that he really likes.
Brown likes to play man to man full court, and defend in your face. With the depth of guards and wings that he carries this year, look for his team to really try to push the ball in transition. But where they are able to possibly take the next step is their ability to shoot the ball at multiple positions.
The Stud
6’4” Junior Jordan Davis had a mini-blow up this summer, and deservedly so. Davis led the team in scoring as a sophomore, putting up 17.7 per game. Davis is an explosive athlete, but is a high IQ shooter. Look for that number to rise this year, and possibly have Davis lead the entire area in scoring. Davis carries offers from East Carolina, VCU, South Alabama, Cincinnati, and Presbyterian.
Thrown Into The Fire
It will be his first year on varsity and 6’1” freshman Russell Dean will be handed the keys to the car. Dean is a big bodied point guard, who has good strength and plays with solid pace. The prospects of Dean look even brighter when you realize that his mother is 6’2” and father is 6’5”. As a true point guard, and that kind of size in his lineage, there is a lot to like. For this year, Dean will be able distribute and score when needed.
The Length
Overall, you wouldn’t consider Dutch Fork a tall team. However, whatever size they have will have to come from 6’7” Junior Willie Dunbar. Dunbar is a very lengthy, highly athletic forward. He really stretches his legs in transition, does a good job protecting the rim, and has a high motor on the boards.
The X-Factor
When it comes to the top 3 players, Dutch Fork can match up with everyone on their schedule. However, it will come down to the other guys for how far they will go.
6’5” Junior Justin Williams is a lengthy wing that has a solid downhill handle and touch out to 22’. If Williams can keep his head on straight, and realize how valuable his production will be to the success of this team, Dutch Fork could have a great year.
