Phenom Hoops checked in at Cape Fear down in Fayetteville, as they welcomed in Jack Britt with both teams looking to secure a solid win on the night. It looked like we had a good battle but it was Jack Britt that made an early statement in the first quarter behind their senior big Demetri Patterson and senior Chris Crosby. It helped them get out to an early 22-13 first-quarter lead and hold a double-digit lead at halftime. Crosby found success from the perimeter while Patterson did work down in the paint. But Cape Fear’s senior Justin Burden kept his team close, leading the team with 10 first-half points.

Second half stayed much of the same through the third quarter but Cape Fear’s full-court pressure created some havoc in the fourth quarter, as they started to chip away at the lead. Creating some critical turnovers and attacking back in transition to get to the line, the Colts were chipping away. But some key misses from the free-throw line were costly, as Jack Britt was able to secure the game from the line late. Cape Fear had one last chance to tie the game up at the buzzer but came up short, as Jack Britt earned the 59-56 victory.

Final: Jack Britt 59 – Cape Fear 56

Stats:
JB: Demetri Patterson 27 points/ Chris Crosby 16 points
CF: Justin Burden 20 points/ Masaun Bryant 16 points

Standouts/ Notes:

  • 2022 6’7 Demetri Patterson was an absolute BEAST in this game. The senior big man was doing work down in the paint, using his big, strong frame to his advantage, going through defenders, finishing through contact, and showing nice touch down in the post.  Also gave us a little view of his ability to step out when given the chance.  He finished with 27 points and had to have had double-digit rebounds as well.  He holds an offer from Mount Olive but he is one more could look at for sure.
  • 2022 Chris Crosby was the other go-to for Jack Britt, really showing off his perimeter game and shot-making ability in the first half.  He ended the night with four 3-pointers but also was a strong presence on the defensive end, really being a pest as an on-ball defender.
  • 2022 Justin Burden led the way for Cape Fear, as the 6’5 prospect really found success in getting paint touches, rising up, and showing touch on his shot and around the basket.  He played with a great motor and attacked the boards as well, showing off that he brings nice athleticism to the table.
  • 2023 Masaun Bryant was a quick guard that was able to get downhill, put the pressure on the defense, get to the line, and be a play-maker. Shots didn’t always fall for the team-leader as well as finding his teammates.
  • Other players that stood out were Jack Britt’s 2022 Alex Fox, as he played with a relentless motor and just made some good plays to help his team win. Also liked 2022 RJ McDonald was also one that intrigued with his athleticism and his do-it all type impact on the court.
