We’ve seen a lot of players come through our doors over the years, varying in appearance, skill level, and everything in between. We decided to put forth a “Getting to Know” series on some players who have attended events but still remain on the lesser-known side of things. Each of these prospects embody being a student-athlete and getting it done in the classroom as well as on the basketball court, and today’s edition will take a closer look at LJ Rush of East Wake.

We’ve seen Rush in various different settings, including at our most recent All-American Camp, where we stated, “Next, we look at a player that showcased a pure dominance during his time at camp, Lybrant “LJ” Rush Jr. Next in his development process is working to get stronger, as it would help prepare him for the high school game. Coach Lewis on Rush: “LJ walked away with the Junior Phenom 150 Camp MVP Award. As a member of the 2025 class, he was really athletic and skilled for his age. There were times when the team needed him to score a lot of points, and he was able to deliver in a variety of way. He was able to knock down the perimeter shot when he got going. But he excelled when he was able to get out in transition and attack the basket. Although the team counted on him to score, I was impressed with his willingness to make the right play. When a teammate was open up the court, he made the ball-ahead pass for the layup. On the defensive end, he was able to utilize his athleticism coming up with several chase down blocks. He was another one who was very coachable and kept a positive and growth mindset. LJ was very receptive to learning and had a great attitude to go along with his stellar play over the course of the camp.” Rush was phenomenal at camp, securing the MVP with relative ease, and has all the tools to become a high-level player with continued work.”

Since then, Rush has only continued to turn heads with his smart, crafty approach and overall savvy from the point guard position. He’s an excellent playmaker with quickness, sharp passing instincts, and a tight handle, which basically allows him to get wherever he wants with the ball in his hands. Rush consistently touches the paint and finishes or makes the proper read. He’s able to score at an efficient rate from all three levels, but doesn’t look to force the action. Rush displays great pace, vision, and understanding of how to run a team on both ends of the floor. He’s a pesky on-ball defender and capable rebounder for his size/position. Rush has all the makings of a noteworthy prospect, and certainly remains someone to monitor over the coming years.
