A new year in high school basketball brings new names to the court around the region.  Several freshmen will be quickly making a name for themselves this season and one big that we got a chance to see at our Phenom All-American Camp and then again recently in a game, 2024 6’8 Michael Marcus Jr. is one to start learning and watching.

At our Phenom All-American Camp, we had this to say about his game:

“He’s a big, strong, physical post prospect with great hands, nice touch, and a very useful motor on both sides of the ball. Marcus rebounds the ball really well, securing a ton of second-chance opportunities and finishing around the basket. Though his offensive arsenal is just beginning to blossom, Marcus showed a strong comfort level operating around the basket or as a spot-up threat along the perimeter…. Coach Lynch on Marcus: “Michael is an excellent rebounder that knows how to effectively compete on both ends of the floor. He has soft hands but needs to improve his footwork. Michael is quick off the floor and puts a lot of pressure on his assignment. He brought a positive attitude and a strong motor to our team.” Marcus highlighted a ton of appeal during camp and has all the tools to become a terrific high school prospect.”

Patrick O’Brien got another chance to watch the young big when Covenant Day took on Calvary Day.  The young man finished with 14 points in the win, showing really nice touch, soft touch with his shot, whether it was around the rim or stepping out for a mid-range shot.  He also has a good build to him, big hands, and is only starting to learn the game and what he is capable of doing.

Getting some early minutes and going up against experienced players will only continue to help Marcus with his game.  With the potential of only getting strong, filling out more, and possibly getting taller, Marcus is a 2024 prospect that could be checking off a lot of boxes at the end of his high school career.
