Finally, we’ve reached the point in the high school season when things begin to shift. Despite all the preseason competition, holiday showcases, and subplots throughout, this time is arguably as exciting as any period in the year. Each game has playoff implications. All kinks should be figured out, and teams should be hitting their stride. However, this is also the stretch when college coaches are hunting for potential diamonds in the rough. Although the state is filled with intriguing prospects in every area, it feels like more people should be taking notice of Kingsley Donaldson and everything he’s doing this season. Let’s take a closer look…

After three years of steady development as a varsity player at Union Pines, Donaldson has absolutely exploded for the Vikings. He’s legitimately improved his numbers across the board. Donaldson literally doubled his scoring production and became more efficient from his junior to senior season. This year, he’s averaging 24.5 PPG, 12.5 RPG, and 1.6 SPG while shooting 52% from the floor—including four games with at least 40 points or 20 rebounds. What’s more shocking is his lack of recruitment. He currently holds offers from Wake Tech and Fayetteville Tech, but should certainly appeal to a greater variety of college programs.

On the court, Donaldson offers a very steady, straightforward game. He’s a long, high-motor forward with athleticism and nonstop activity to overwhelm opponents on both ends of the floor. Donaldson positions himself extremely well to control the glass and capitalize on second-chance opportunities. He finishes with touch, but can also space the floor from 10-15 feet as needed. Donaldson understands and embraces his identity well. He doesn’t try to force the action or operate outside of his abilities. Add in his scrappy defensive presence, and it’s easy to see him being an asset at the next level.
