The state of North Carolina is blessed with an overabundance of talent. In the North Carolina 2018 class, 60 plus players signed with D1 schools and another 40 plus signed to play at the D2, D3, NAIA or Juco level. Quite impressive numbers! This year, the 2019 class is on the same course to have 100 plus players continue to play at the collegiate level. In our unsigned senior spotlight, we want to take a closer look at 6'5 Dyquavis Wilkins of Farmville Central in the small town of Farmville, North Carolina, who we strongly feel is a scholarship-worthy player.

Farmville Central is currently 18-0 and regarded as one of the top teams in the state regardless of class or affiliation. As with any successful team, there are many valuable pieces to the team and that is the case and point with 6’5 unsigned senior Dyquavis Wilkins. He is currently averaging 11 PPG, 7 RPG, 1.8 BPG, not to mention an outstanding 3.5 GPA in the classroom. Head coach Larry Williford stated it best. “Playing with a lot of talent around him, his numbers would be much higher in other programs, but our team is loaded. I believe his best basketball is ahead of him. You can’t coach what he has and he has the ability to change the momentum with one single play. He is so explosive with his leaping ability. He can step out on the perimter and knock down shots. He has excellent touch.”

We have seen Dyquavis numerous times at Phenom Hoop Report. Whether it has been in a camp setting or team setting, he has received tremendous accolades from our staff. At the the NC Phenom 150 camp, he was quite impressive. Our own Jeff Bendel stated, “Dyquavis is a long, wiry forward that has tremendous athleticism and has the ability to do different things on the court. He handles the ball nicely for his position and played unselfishly throughout the day. He was a constant threat to throw down dunks, both in transition, and as an off-the-ball cutter. Dyquavis rebounded the ball extremely well and was consistnely problematic for opponents in transition.” Camp coach Aaron Hogner even stated, “Dyquavis showed flashes of being a shutdown defender and was one of the most intriguing prospects a camp and should certainly emerge as a college-level player.”

Kevin Dawkins stated, “Dyquavis is so long, lean and athletic. He showed good range over the last two games. He defended well on the perimeter, altered and blocked multiple shots in the paint.” No matter the setting, no matter the venue, Dyquavis has shown he has the athleticism, skill and most of all grades to be successful at the next appropriate level, but more importantly he does it within the team structure. He’s a team player and can be a valuable player at the collegiate level.
