The first high school event of the season with Phenom Hoops was off the charts and certainly memorable. Some of the top players were on display throughout the event, but the player who may have stolen the show and had the best overall showing was 2027 6’5 King Gibson from The Burlington School.
Gibson is a well-known name already, being ranked as a Top 20 prospect by many national outlets and has been in the spotlight for quite some time now with his game. But coming into the season, we were interested in seeing how this young talent could take his game to the next level and how he would welcome being even more in the spotlight. Well, the bright lights didn’t bother him at all at the Carmel Tip-Off, as he started out with an impressive 35-point showing on Day 1 and backed it up with a tough 17-point, 6 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 steals on Day 2 against Carmel Christian.
Gibson shined among the rest and proved why he is regarded as one of the top talents not only in the state but also nationally. He has embraced being the leader and go-to option for TBS, but his game flows so well within the offense and his team. Gibson showed that he has that elevated level in his game to put on an offensive show, creating off the dribble, attacking and finishing at the rim, creating space for his shot, and being an efficient three-level scorer. But he also showed his overall impact in so many ways on the court, whether it is making smart decisions and being a playmaker for others, his ability to use his length on the boards, and his defensive presence overall both on and off the ball. Gibson brings so much to the table and has shown he is ready to take the next step with his game, being that leader on the court, and elevate his game even more to show just why he is one of the premier prospects in the country.
