The talent that was on the court this past weekend at the Carmel Christian Tip-Off Classic was incredible. Many of which have been earning the attention of college coaches around the country but there was one player that really showcased his talent on the big stage and should see his recruitment take off.
2023 6’6 Collin Tanner from Wayne Country Day put on an absolute show in leading his team, averaging 25 points and 10 rebounds per game and giving everyone a glimpse of just his impact and versatility on the floor.
This is what was said after Day 2 at the event:
“After a 25-point performance on Day 1, Tanner came back strong once again on Day 2. Not only did he rack up a double-double by halftime, but he continued to show just how effective he can be no matter where he is placed on the court. The 6’6 prospect can be a main ball-handler, run the offense, create for himself off the dribble, finish strong and through contact in the paint, and also be a force on the boards. Tanner does it all and it is why we think he is going to see an uptick in his recruitment quickly.” – Patrick O’Brien
After his strong performance, Tanner felt good in what he was able to show, and is one of the clear leaders on the team, giving him a chance to really shine.
“It felt really good, at the moment I was just trying to help my team secure a win,” Tanner told Phenom Hoops after the event. “My whole like, I’ve been on successful teams but I’ve always been the second or third guy. This year, I want to show that I can lead a team and be a good leader.”
When watching, you can see that Tanner has really elevated his level of play, showing how effective he can be as a three-level scorer. But Tanner also mentioned that he has been working on his body, getting stronger, as well as improving his handles and his ability to finish.
With what Tanner showed, it is hard to believe that more schools won’t be coming his way; he has shown that he can be a key piece for a future program. Right now, Campbell and Coastal Carolina are the only schools that have offered but if he continues to impress as he did at Carmel, his recruitment should really take off down the road.
