Head coach Gary Ellington seems to be having the Warriors rolling along once again this season and to put it simply, they have proven they are one of the top teams in the state. The winning ways shouldn’t come as any surprise, as this program and team have been playing quite some time together and are very familiar with each other.
They showed it over and over again this fall as CC Elite (many of the same players were on this team) and are doing it once again, as the Warriors are undefeated on the season. And it isn’t like they are winning nail-biters; they have been dominant in many of their wins. So far, Weddington has won seven of its 11 games by 30 or more points and has been putting on an offensive display. They have been averaging 70.8 points per game, while only giving up 37 points per game to opponents (which includes four wins in which they limited their opponents under 30 points).
This is a Weddington program that has a team mentality, they play unselfish basketball, and they simply enjoy the success their teammates have, as well as theirs. They have players that bring a unique skill set to the table but they all seem to fit the puzzle. Juniors AJ Cook is leading the way, especially with his outside game, while Chase Lowe operates well in leading the offense, attacking off the dribble, and much more. Senior Brock Bowen and junior Kyle Frazier also provide tremendous pieces. And that is just to name a few, as they have several others that help contribute; in all, they have had 12 players that have played in at least seven games this season.
This is a balanced team and a fun team to watch. They are taking names and wins as they do it this season, and it seems to Coach Ellington has his group in hopes of securing a state title this season.
