With the Lincolnton Wolves, 2027 LJ Smith gets much of the attention and deservingly so as he is one of the top guards in the nation. But watching Lincolnton in action this past weekend at the Phenom 828 Showcase, there was another prospect that grabbed my attention and could be a sneaky prospect to keep an eye on.

2025 Tyler McClain, an unsigned senior at Lincolnton, caught my eyes personally with his play and believe that he could be an intriguing prospect for college coaches to check out. At the event, I had this to say: “2025 6’4 Tyler McClain is an intriguing senior. Good size, strong frame, battles and can make a variety of plays on the court for his team and shows to be able to score inside and out.”

He ended up finishing with 19 points and five rebounds in the game, McClain has an interesting game with his frame, his ability to score, and being a strong piece without being the actual focal piece on the court. McClain plays with a smooth pace, can get to the rim and finish, finishes through contact, finds ways to get to his spots well, and has a confident release from the perimeter as well; he is a very sneaky prospect who finds ways to be productive for his team.

McClain is having a good senior season, averaging just around 13 points per game, and with what he is able to provide and what he showed at the Phenom 828 Showcase, he has now been put on our radar at Phenom Hoops.
