Looking up north, Phenom Hoops recently got in touch with Jason Singelton Jr., a 6’4 prospect that has been garnering a lot of attention in the new year and racking up some strong offers. The son of Jason Singleton, who attended Ohio State and made a trip to the Final Four in 1999, Singleton Jr. is now carving out a name for himself as he has started off the travel ball season strong with strong play and offers. We were able to catch up with him to talk about his latest offer, which schools have been staying strong, and some upcoming potential visits. See what he had to say.
Phenom: I wanted to first ask you how this spring/summer has been going so far for you and the team in your eyes?
Singleton: I think it’s going great! I feel as if our team has gotten better in each of the three tournaments we’ve played in. And when it comes to me, I think I’ve just continued to improve, and I think I’m getting better each week.
Phenom: How has your game improved, and what are you hoping to show more this summer overall?
Singleton: I think I’ve improved in every way, but I think I’ve gotten a lot more athletic and explosive. And I’m trying to show my overall shot-making ability and that I’m a good point guard who can make good decisions and help any team win.
Phenom: How would you best describe your game?
Singleton: I’m an athletic, versatile two-way point guard who can play above the rim.
Phenom: Thoughts on the latest offer from Harvard and what stands out early on for you?
Singleton: I really enjoyed the school and the coaches. They made me feel like a priority. I like the program and everything that comes with it. But in terms of what schools stand out, none are really in the lead, I’d say. I’m keeping all my options open and excited to get on some more visits to feel some other places out.
Phenom: What schools that have offered have been developing a strong relationship with you in your eyes?
Singleton: I think Harvard, Yale, Miami, Ohio, and Nebraska really do a great job of building strong relationships. They do a great job of staying in contact with me and just checking up on me. But I have a good relationship with all the schools that have offered.
Phenom: Do you have any visits planned this summer or want to take?
Singleton: I’m going to Princeton in about a week, but when it comes to this summer, I have no exact dates set up but I know I will be going to Ohio State in June, Nebraska in the fall, and a couple other schools I will most likely visit but I’m kind of waiting to see what else will come through.
Phenom: What are you looking for in a program overall at the next level?
Singleton: Most importantly a coaching staff that really believes in me and can see me thrive in their program. Somewhere with a great culture within the basketball program, and also somewhere I can get a good education.
