Tyler Thompson 6’6 195 2023 Panther Creek High School, Cary NC

Tyler is an imposing physical presence with an impressive combination of muscle mass and ripped leanness on a 6’6 frame that looks as if it were chiseled from stone! He combines elite-level athleticism with a unique blend of physical capabilities, an unrelenting motor, and natural rebounding instincts and if he doesn’t overwhelm you physically he will wear you out in the paint.

Tyler is a walking double/double using his powerful leaping ability and physicality coupled with good quickness and effort around the rim to take position and rebound the basketball at its highest point and to grab the ball off the glass for highlight-reel finishes on the offensive end. He gets off the floor quickly and shows great timing for rebounds and for blocked shots and his repeat jumps are just as powerful, his ability to elevate just as quick and effortless on his second and subsequent leaps as on his first. His hands are strong and once he grabs a rebound it’s his! Tyler is a dynamic athlete who beats opponents up and down the floor and shows good speed and agility. He can snatch a rebound off the glass and go end to end showing comfort in handling the basketball in space. He creates matchup nightmares because he has the ability and the tools to expand his game out to the perimeter where he can guard other forwards but also create his own shot off the dribble.

Tyler is a powerful, slashing forward who attacks the rim with good quickness and purpose and not only plays through contact but punishes defenders at the rim. He shows a nice touch and some creativity on non-dunk finishes but makes no mistake he will dunk on you! His energy and athleticism coupled with his strength make for an impressive combination but two skills that caught my attention were his IQ and his leadership skills.

Tyler has a great feel and is a solid passer, makes sound decisions. He is vocal, especially on the defensive end calling out screens and making sure everyone is where they need to be. Shows so much court savvy and maturity for a high school player let alone a sophomore! Tyler has a limitless ceiling and is certainly a prospect college coaches should be monitoring right now!
