Phenom Hoops was back in Charlotte for the Phenom New Year’s Bash, bringing some terrific talent from around the area on both the girls’ and boys’ side. In the second game, we had two talented teams on the girl’s side with Charlotte Catholic and Hickory Ridge.
Hickory Ridge started out well behind the guard play of Erica McClary but Charlotte Catholic started to get going with their size between 2024 Gracynn Gough and 2024 Blanca Thomas, as both scored in double-figures in the first half. Charlotte Catholic was able to gain a 20-10 first-quarter lead and eventually expand that even more at halftime to 39-20.
In the second, it was much of the same with Catholic continuing to push the tempo, get out in transition and showcase a balanced attack inside and out, adding to their lead and leading 58-28. With the game in hand, both teams continued to compete but Catholic was able to walk away with the W, eventually winning 71-37.
