Unassumingly Captivating

There is something captivating about surprise. Going into a basketball game, you have an idea of what a good player looks like. When anything deviates from that it’s attractive, if not fascinating.

Kody Shubert is captivating from the first time you watch him play. He walks onto the court and you don’t think much of him. The freshman has a young looking face that sits on top of his slender 5’11” frame. His body language is confident, but he is a quiet person with nothing flashy going on. Then when you look at his team, you see that Shubert plays for Lincoln Charter, a school that houses only four hundred (400) students

However, once the ball is tipped, there is no denying that 5’11” 2018 Kody Shubert has complete control of the basketball game. During his freshman year Shubert adapted quickly to his Varsity surroundings. He averaged over 19 points, 5 boards, 4 assists, and 4 steals per game. Shubert also led his Lincoln Charter team to the NCHSAA 1A state Final Four.

Shubert’s High School Coach Bradley Gabriel stated, “Top PG for the class of 2018, Kody is a high IQ, high energy player. He can shoot the 3 from anywhere and is very difficult to defend off the dribble. He makes everyone around him better and leads on and off the court. Boasting a 4.5 GPA in the classroom Kody has already caught the attention of Ivy League schools such as Yale and Harvard.”

This summer, Shubert has been playing on the Team Charlotte 16U team. On the Under Armour Circuit Shubert is averaging 8 points (2nd on team) and 2 assists for the 6th place team. The significance of this is that Shubert is playing up an age group, and just like on his Varsity team, he is fitting in if not standing out.

Shubert will be playing this weekend at the Phenom Summer Jam. A 14 Team high school team camp at Proehlific Park in Greensboro, NC. Shubert is one of the best Freshmen in the state of North Carolina and a player to know now.
