To start our Tuesday night, we sat baseline for Ardrey Kell vs. South Meck on the girl’s side. South Meck was looking to keep their strong start going while Ardrey Kell was looking to secure a big road win. South Meck was able to get out to the early lead after the first, with Senali Moss leading the charge early. The 3-ball helped Ardrey Kell stay right there with South Meck though, as the Sabres led 21-20 at halftime. Moss and Katie Houpt led the charge in the third quarter and South Meck was able to clamp down defensively, outscoring Ardrey Kell 13-4 and holding a 10-point lead at the end of the third. But just when you thought the game was in hand, Molly Burns and company started to their rhythm from three, knocking down multiple threes that eventually helped them take a one-point lead in the fourth. South Meck though responded well on both ends of the floor, as they were able to protect their home floor and earn a 51-42 victory.
South Meck: 10 – 11 – 13 – 17 : 51
Ardrey Kell: 8 – 12 – 4 – 18 : 42
Standouts/ Notes:
- 2022 Senali Moss (South Meck) is an unsigned senior that college coaches need to take a look at. When we watched her at the Holiday Classic, she went off for 37 points. Though her shots weren’t falling in this game, she still was able to get out in transition, create well off the dribble, and get to the basket on her way to 19 points. But you also have to love her unselfish play and vision on the floor; a true leader on the court.
- 2022 Katie Houpt and 2023 Maggie Houpt are two players that really step up well for this team, especially with their ability to stretch the floor and be an outside threat from three. Both knocked down shots to help secure the win.
- 2023 Anastasia Sinclair (South Meck) continues to impress with how she runs the show. She has that point guard mentality, running the show, playing at a nice pace, displaying her court awareness, and showing her ability to get into the paint.
- 2024 Molly Burns (Ardrey Kell) captured some eyes with her play, as she was the one leading the charge for her team and she did it from behind the arc, knocking down five 3-pointers. She is a confident shooter and isn’t afraid to let it fly, as she stepped up big in the fourth quarter to help her team get back in the game.
- I also liked what I saw from 2023 Lauren Brady (Ardrey Kell), as she really stepped up down in the post on both ends. She was active on the boards, made herself long and a strong presence on the defensive end, as well as finishing well around the basket.
