Each and every time Phenom Hoops gets to report or sees a commitment from a player we have seen over the years, it is always a fantastic day. It is great to see players achieve their goal to play at the next level and it is such a great accomplishment for that player.
Here is the latest commitment.
Player: Brian Sumpter
Class: 2025
Committed to: Wofford
“He’s a long, athletic, high-motor post prospect with solid touch and excellent defensive instincts. Sumpter displayed the ability to reliably anchor the paint, protect the rim, and control the glass on both ends of the floor. He utilizes his length well to finish and alter shots. Sumpter is a fluid athlete who naturally causes problems for opposing big men. He runs the floor well in transition and is capable of knocking down jumpers nicely for his size/position. Next in his development process is working on the use of his off-hand, as it would make him a better finisher around the basket. Coach Staley on Sumpter: “Brian is a long, 6-foot-8 defender with pop and solid shooting touch. Has the ability to rebound the ball and start the break. Will be good for Keenan this year.” Sumpter made a lasting impression at camp, securing the Defensive Award, and will be a prospect for college coaches to monitor over the next calendar year.”
“Sumpter is one we have had our eyes on for quite some time now, but we certainly have noticed that he has gotten bigger and stronger, as he continues to develop his game. Sumpter’s length as a forward can create trouble for opponents as he can block shots, but also be an effective offensive option that moves well and runs the court.”
“What is there not to like about a 6’7 versatile prospect who is built like a forward but has guard-like skills as well. Sumpter is a very versatile prospect on the floor and impacts the game in an array of ways. Watching him first at the SC Top 80 and then again over the weekend, you can see that he has really improved his feel for the game. But with his length to be an impact down low, either scoring or on the defensive end, while also being able to step out, put the ball on the deck and create… very intriguing young man to watch out for.”
