Before now it has been a quiet ascension for 6’2” 2018 Jonathan Norfleet of Salem High School. That is, quiet until St Francis offered him on Sunday evening.
Norfleet has been a name that has quietly be talked about as an up and comer in the basketball hotbed known as the 757. When given an opportunity at the prestigious Virginia Top 80, against the best talent in the state, Norfleet showed that he is (without question) one of the top up and coming players, “Norfleet distinguished himself a tough guard who has a great frame and good basketball IQ. He came into camp with a great attitude, and displayed solid leadership for a kid so young in this setting. Norfleet’s Camp Coach Ethan Walker stated, “Jonathan is a young, tough guard with a solid handle. He has a good basketball body to build on and plays the right way.” As Norfleet continues to progress, we would like to see him continue developing his jump shot.”
This Sunday it all started for Norfleet, when St Francis (PA) of the Northeast Conference. While recruitment is expected for a high level player, Norfleet is excited to go ahead and get the process started, “Getting that first offer, it feels great.”
Norfleet also feels good about the upcoming season at Salem High School. Last year they finished with a 10-12 record which was good for a 5th place finish in the conference. However, along with Norfleet, Salem High School returns some good size and guard play. Norfleet is ready to take on a leadership role for the program, “The season is looking great for Salem, we are going to surprise people. I am the leader, I’m the point guard of the team.”
There is no question Norfleet is on the rise. He is currently ranked as the number 9 player in Virginia’s 2018 class. It started with winning Mr Station at the prestigious Virginia Top 80, and has continued to grow since. He is primed to have a huge season this year, and should be one to place firmly in your recruiting SIM Card.
