Rice has the natural tools that translate to the D1 level and beyond. During three (3) Phenom AAU events this summer, Rice averaged over 20 points per game.
Rice is very long and has a frame that will easily add weight as he matures and gets into a college’s strength and diet program. His lengthy, slender frame is very reminiscent of for NBA stand out Eddie Jones.
What sticks out most about Rice is his ability to shoot the ball. He had multiple games, this summer, that he rang up 8 (or more) three’s in a game. The long shooting guard, is able to shoot over most defenders at this level. He uses a high release and has a soft touch with deep range. Rice is also very athletic, when he is able to get downhill in transition.
Rice is also a high academic student, sporting a GPA over 4.0. He has been recruited by multiple Ivy League schools and that should continue.
After playing in our Grassroots Tip Off Classic this April we wrote, “Rice came out of no where in the Phenom Challenge, and quickly made his mark on the event. Rice is a scorer extraordinaire. Playing varsity at Ridge View he only averaged 6 points with limited playing time. This event, Rice averaged over 20 Points, scoring over 26 twice. Rice is a smooth shooter, with great length and confidence. He attacks the lane well from the wing, and showed a consistent one-two dribble pull up. Each D1 coach that watched Rice came away impressed. I suspect that trend to continue, this kind of length, size, and shooting touch warrants quite a bit of interest.”
After our June Phenom Summer Jam we wrote, “Once the game started, Rice left no doubt about his ability to play. Rice averaged a smooth twenty (20) points per game through five (5) games in the event. From the moment the game started Rice showed that he was wired to score. Rice showed comfort and ability at all three (3) levels. When in transition he attacked the basket and finished above the rim. In the half-court, he showed a good pull-up jump shot going right. From range, he showed he is a good knock down shooter from beyond the arc.”
We are eager to see how Rice looks with his full high school team. He will come into the season with somewhat of a developed reputation. However, if history is proof of anything Rice should be able to hold those expectations on his talented shoulders.
