Basketball Achievement:
From The Hoop Column: Giovanni Jones 6’4 wing: Handles the ball well for a wing player. Can create off the bounce. Splits double teams. Defends.

From Virginia Preps coverage of the 2015 Virginia Wesleyan Team Camp: Giovanni Jones – Granby (2017) – More of a natural small forward type, Jones has to play out of position for the Comets at the “4” and the “5” because of their lack of height across the board. That being said he’s perhaps the most difficult player to match up with on a Granby team that got contributions from a few places…Possessing a long, skinny frame, Jones could attract some next level attention in a year from now as his body fills out. He looks to be an all around factor that can supply scoring, rebounding and defend multiple positions on the floor which will be essential in that rugged Eastern District style of play.

AAU Coach Evaluation:
Giovanni Jones is an explosive scorer, averaged 22 points per game over a 25 game summer season! He can play 1-3 positions, good athlete, with excellent vertical leaping ability, first step quickness allows him to blow past most guards. Can improve defensively with dedication to doing so. Quietly becoming one of the best guards in Hampton Roads! – Coach Wayne Lynch, LoxDown United AAU

Coach Frank says:
Giovanni Jones is an ultra athletic and long multi-purpose player with great versatility. Wiry yet strong at 6’4 he has the wingspan of a 6’8 player which allows him to be effective almost anywhere on the floor. Giovanni can score as well as anybody in the 757! A slasher type with an explosive first step and tremendous bounce, he has played every position on the floor during the summer and produced in each role. He handles the ball well and does not turn it over and he’s a better than average passer. Giovanni scores at all three levels but has the defense at his mercy on dribble penetration where he is shifty and quick and has the ability to explode to the rim where he is a strong finisher. He is working to add mid range consistency. Defensively Giovanni is tasked with defending the post most often because he plays bigger than 6’4. He is a fierce competitor who defends with an attitude and a high motor. His quickness, length and his ability to read and quickly rotate on defense allows him to be around the ball and in position to make plays. He is an excellent rebounder! There is no question but that Giovanni Jones is a name college coaches should add to their “watch list”.
