Phenom Hoop Report National Scout Patrick O’Brien’s evaluation of Jarontez after his performance at the Virginia Top 80: Jarontez is an exciting and explosive player with untapped upside. He is a run and jump kind of athlete, so it is no surprise when he explodes at the rim. He can really shoot the ball with solid range, all the way out to 17 feet. He showcased really good shooting mechanics. Continue to work on his defensive mind and rebounding.

High School Coach Evaluation: Jarontez Garrett played a huge roll in Jamestown’s success last year. He gave big minutes as a freshman; he could have probably started on most high school teams in the area. Jarontez came off the bench and delivered in key post-season games. He had a game high 17 points verses Group 6A Granby in only 15mins! Jarontez possesses a natural leadership trait that is far beyond his years and has a great feel and pace for the game. His change of speeds is the best of any 2020 guard I’ve seen in VA. He’s an above average shooter that can hit from 3 and his middle game, and his floaters and pull-ups are excellent. He has been battle tested this summer playing up 2 age groups with Team Loaded 757 17u. He came off the bench and was able to hold his own as well as lead the older guys. This season Jarontez’s goal is to lead Jamestown back to a State Championship. – Coach Donovan Bridgeforth, Head Coach Jamestown High School

Coach Frank says: Jarontez has as explosive a first step as anybody in the 757! He is a speedy and quick guard with fast hands and feet, explosive quickness and a tight handle. He has a strong durable frame, powerful legs and a strong upper body. What makes him so difficult to defend is his ability to blow by a defender coupled with his ability to knock down the jumper with very good consistency to three point range. Jarontez can hit the jumper off the dribble or coming off a screen where he has a quick release and gets good elevation. He has a crafty handle and is a strong playmaker and skilled passer. Jarontez can change directions with the dribble, decelerate and accelerate abruptly, is always looking to find the open cutter or attack space and keep pressure on the defense. He is a high IQ guard; he knows his personnel and makes sound decisions. He is a scrappy player who brings great energy on both ends of the floor, competes! College coaches should take note as Jarontez is one of the better playmakers and more court savvy point guards in the 757.
