6’3” 2016 Justin Kier picked up an offer from Longwood University this weekend. Kier, who had a great summer is a rising senior at Spotswood High School in Penn Laird, Virginia. He now carries offers from Longwood, Coastal Carolina, Radford, Fairfield, and Winthrop.
We saw Kier twice over the summer, first at the Grassroots Tip-Off Classic then at the Phenom Summer Havoc. Both times he was a standout performer, after the Grassroots Tip-Off Classic we wrote, “Kier came into the event with a Fairfield offer, and very little hype outside of his area. In this event, Kier came out swinging, going for 24 points (on 4 threes) in his team’s first game. Kier did not slow down from there showing an ability to make shots both from range and at the rim. Fairfield is looking smart coming in as the first offer, and should be joined soon with a few other choices.”
Kier felt like he grew throughout July growing his game and maturing, “I think July went really well, my leadership definitely improved. I also was able to get my team mates involved more and developed more consistency knocking down shots. My aggression grew as well, I was able to take over games at some points which was a major improvement.”
When it comes to his recruitment Kier says that his comfort level with the program and his possible major will play a role in his decision, “If I go to a school that is close to water, I really want to major in Marine Biology, if that isn’t an option probably just business. Other than that I really just want to feel comfortable with everything the schools have to offer.”
At this point Kier is still waiting to see what offers ultimately come in and will sit down and decide on his upcoming visits,“Coach Miller and Coach Edwards (my Spotswood HS Coaches) and my family are going to talk about the visits soon.”
At the next level, Kier projects as a wing who can affect the game in a lot of ways, “All the coaches recruiting me like me because they think I can play multiple positions.” Kier is a jack of all trades, and a hot commodity leaving the Summer. Last year for Spotswood High School Kier averaged over 21 points per game for a Spotswood team that made it to the Virginia state finals.
