Life is about opportunity and basketball is no different. Although it’s a sport and game designed for enjoyment, it’s become something greater for many people. We’ve seen countless players advance to the collegiate ranks and yield various results. Plenty of guys need time to progress, physically develop, or simply get acquainted with the new landscape. However, it’s uncommon to see players improve as their competition increases. It is largely unprecedented to see a player start at a Division II program, transition to Division I with their coaching staff, and become more productive than before. Ultimately, that’s exactly what Ketron “KC” Shaw is doing at Maryland Eastern Shore. Let’s take a closer look at his journey…
After finishing his senior season at Mooresville in 2022, Shaw committed to Winston-Salem State University. He received solid minutes as a freshman and averaged 3.6 PPG and 2.4 RPG. It wasn’t until the following year when Shaw started to burst onto the scene. He watched his value and production steadily increase throughout the course of the season. As a sophomore, Shaw averaged 10.8 PPG, 4.8 RPG, and 1.8 APG. Due to their success, Coach Hill was offered to take on a new endeavor at Maryland Eastern Shore. He seized the chance and took several players with him to the next level.
Among those players was Shaw. Coming off a strong sophomore campaign, folks naturally expected continued improvement. Instead, Shaw seamlessly morphed into a dominant focal point for the Hawks and elevated his numbers across the board. This season, he’s averaging 18.5 PPG, 6.2 RPG, and 3.1 APG while shooting 46% from the floor. Shaw has notched the 20-point mark on 11 occasions and eclipsed the 30-point mark twice. Again, doing this at any rank would be impressive but making this type of leap (both in terms of level and production) is truly incredible. Only a junior, there should be a lot of excitement about Shaw’s final few seasons for the Hawks.
