Given the changes throughout college sports, countless players enter the transfer portal every year. Many leave their current situation to reach new heights or attempt to reestablish themselves at a different level. Among the latest additions to the portal is Justin Monden of Georgia Southwestern. Most folks should also remember him from his days at Heritage High School, where he shined as a focal point for the Huskies before playing his final year at Word of God. Before highlighting his production from this season, let’s look at what we’ve previously said…

We’ve seen Monden countless times throughout his journey, most recently stating, “Since then, Monden has only further reaffirmed his capabilities whilst shining as a key cog for the Holy Rams. After taking over as the starting floor general, he’s posted averages of 10 PPG, 4 RPG, 4 APG, and 1.5 SPG while shooting the ball at a high percentage from the floor and beyond the arc. Many of these notable showings have come against the likes of Rob Dillingham, Bryce Warren, Trey Parker, Naas Cunningham, the Thompson twins, and the rest of the highly touted guards in OTE. Although there’s been a lot of discussion about the league in general, it shouldn’t take away from Monden and what he provides as a steady, reliable two-way presence. He’s a low-maintenance player with IQ, toughness, and the ability to consistently adapt to whatever the team needs. Monden’s combination of playmaking and perimeter shooting allows him to cause problems for opponents with or without the ball in his hands. He’s a great defender with sharp quickness and anticipation for forcing turnovers—both in the passing lanes and at the point of attack. Add in his academics (4.0 GPA, AP course load, etc.) and everything he accomplished at Heritage High School, and Monden would be an obvious asset to a variety of scholarship-level programs. Though he holds offers from Shaw and Georgia Southwestern, more schools would be wise to get involved.”

After two successful seasons of college basketball under his belt, Monden is seeking a new opportunity. He’s coming off a strong sophomore campaign with averages of 12.2 PPG (Top 20 in Peach Belt), 2.2 RPG, 2.1 APG, and 1.0 SPG with 42/38/88 (top 5 in Peach Belt) shooting splits. Monden understands how to effectively run a team while efficiently picking his spots as a scorer. He visibly improved his three-point shooting from last year, and is still a masterful artist in the midrange. Monden possesses IQ, creation skills, shooting ability, and reliable defensive instincts. His previous averages at Heritage (24.2 PPG (trailing only Paul McNeil in North Carolina 4A), 4.0 RPG, 4.0 APG) should only further solidify his ability to expand his production or seamlessly toggle between roles. Monden would be an impactful piece for a variety of different programs.
