The talent on display at the US Club Championships was off the charts, as some of the top players in the Class of 2026 and 2027 were on display, but that also included a few prospects in the Class of 2028. Getting there early for the event to check out the event, the first team we watched was KC Run GMC. That gave us an opportunity to watch one of the youngest prospects in the building but also maybe one of the most intriguing prospects in 2028 7’0 Dylan Betts.
It was easy to spot the young center on the court, as he towered over many of his opponents but the more you watched him operate on the court, the more you could see the potential in this young man’s game. His impact could be felt on both sides of the floor but you also have to remind yourself that he is just starting his high school career and he will only add more to his game down the road. Betts though does a great job defensively in helping anchor the paint, covering a ton of space, showing his impact on the boards, and having good timing in altering/blocking shots. Offensively, Betts is just starting his story and as he gets stronger and older, understanding more of his capabilities, he has a chance to be an even stronger presence on the court. He runs the floor well for his size, understanding how to run rim to rim first but then also looking to garner position in the post. He also understands and displays good hands early on, being able to finish with touch around the basket as well as always being ready for players facilitating to him or dumping down around the rim.
Basketball certainly runs in the family for Dylan as his sister, Lauren Betts, currently is a sophomore at UCLA, and it was pretty evident that high-major schools will be coming for Dylan sooner rather than later.
What Was Said:
“Betts was one of the first players that I watched and noticed, and then learning that he was part of the Class of 2028 only intrigued me more. Betts is just starting his journey as a player and he will only continue to develop and get stronger. But what you notice early on with the big man is his incredible touch and feel around the basket, understanding how to be an effective scorer with a soft touch, running the floor from rim to rim, and being engaged without the ball for easy drop-offs or putbacks. And defensively, his length and fluidity make him a problem as a rim protector and shot-blocker. There is a lot to like about this young man, especially with his size, and he will be a hot target for many schools down the road.”
