Coach: Jordan Gathers
#5: 5’10 ’20 Michael Holmes (New Castle HS, New Castle, IN)
Starting things off, we look at a player with a lot of craftiness and ability at the offensive end of the court, Michael Holmes. He’s a crafty point guard with the ability to take the ball to the basket. His ability to penetrate the defense made him a threat every time he had the ball in his hands. Defensively, Holmes possesses the ability to keep the play in front and force people to shoot over him. Next in Michael’s development is continuing to work on finishing through/over size and and contact. Coach Gathers on Holmes: “Michael has an extremely high basketball IQ. He plays much bigger than his size with a lot of heart. As his strength continues to improve, so will his ability to put the ball in the basket.” Holmes is an intriguing prospect and will be one to keep an eye on heading in to his junior season.
#16: 6’0 ’21 Joseph Phinisee (McCutcheon HS, Lafayette, IN)
Next, we look at a player that excelled at both ends of the court, Joseph Phinisee. Phinisee has the ability to score at all three levels and can finish through contact when he gets to the rim. His ability to penetrate the defense helps provide open shots for teammates. Defensively, he helps keep everything in front to ensure teammates don’t have to provide help. Next in Phinisee’s development is improved rebounding and pursuit of the ball. Coach Gathers on Phinisee: “Joseph is an extremely talented PG with a great understanding of the game. He moves extremely well on the court and he is a great finisher. He is poised at all times and makes the right play at both ends of the court. He is able to push the pace and is always looking to find the open man.” Phinisee has a very well-rounded skillset at both ends of the court and will be one to keep an eye on heading in to his sophomore season.
#25: 6’1 ’20 Brady Mundell (Greenfield Central HS, Greenfield, IN)
Moving on to a player who possesses the ability to put the ball in the basket from any where on the court, Brady Mundell. Brady showed a strong ability to put the ball in the basket at all three levels. His ability to push the pace made him an asset for his team and his court vision allowed him to find the open man. Next in his development is continuing to improve at the defensive end. Coach Gathers on Mundell: “Brady has a really good feel for the game. He has a nice looking stroke, range and feel on his three-point shot Brady has all of the tools to continue improving, I was very impressed with his natural ability.” Mundell showcased his shooting ability throughout camp and will be one to keep an eye on heading in to his junior season.
#37:6’2 ’21 Benjamin Jones IV (Andrean HS, Hobart, IN)
Continuing on to a player who made contributions at both the offensive and defensive ends of the court, Benjamin Jones IV. Offensively, Jones has the ability to score at all three levels given time and space. In addition to his scoring ability, his ability to find the open man helps provide teammates with open looks at and around the basket. Next in Benjamin’s development will be to continue his movement without the ball. This growth should provide more open looks for Jones as well as his teammates. Coach Gathers on Jones IV: “Benjamin is a good shooter. He has very good quickness and footwork, which will serve him well as he continues to grow as a scorer and as a player.” Jones is an intriguing prospect and will be one to watch develop heading in to his senior season.
#47:6’4 ’20 Charlie Yoder (Westview HS, Lagrange, IN)
Next,we look a player who made his presence felt at both the offensive and defensive ends of the court, Charlie Yoder. Offensively, he posseses the ability to score the ball from anywhere on the court. In addition to scoring, he is an exceptionally gifted rebounder and moves exceptionally well without the ball. Defensively, he is an extremely strong defender. His ability to keep the play in front of him ensures that teammates don’t need to help him. Next in Charlie’s development is continued improvement on his ball-handling skills. Coach Gathers on Yoder: “Charlie is a blue collar guy. He’s a left-handed do-it-all player who has high level talent. He has a great motor and is a great finisher around the basket.” Amongst the impressive things he did throughout the day, those mentioned above helped earned him the “Mr. Hustle” award at the Indy Top 80 camp. Yoder’s effort and motor will make him one to keep an eye on heading in to his junior year.
#59: 6’4 ’21 Jack Futa (Saint Joseph HS, South Bend, IN)
Moving on to a player who made strong contributions at both ends of the court, Jack Futa. Futa is a high IQ player who looks to do everything to help the team. Offensively, he has the ability to score the ball from eighteen feet plus or finish with his back to the basket. His ability to rebound the ball provides extra possessions for his teams. Next in Futa’s development is continued improvement of his quickness. As his quickness improves, he will become a difficult guard giving the combination of size and scoring ability. Coach Gathers on Futa: “Jack has a great feel for the game. His ability to space the court as a guard/forward was a big asset. He is an extremely hard working and tough.” Futa will be a prospect to keep an eye on heading in to his sophomore season.
#68: 6’7 ’19 Damieon Warrum (Pendleton Heights HS, Anderson, IN)
Continuing on to the player who did everything a coach would look for at both ends of the court, Damieon Warrum. He is an extremely high IQ basketball player who understands how to keep himself and others involved. Offensively, Warrum can score from beyond the three-point or in the post making him a threat from virtually anywhere. In addition to efficient scoring, he is able to handle the ball well, space the court efficiently, and rebound the ball extremely well. Defensively, he is a lock down defender on and off the ball. His length allows him to keep everything in front of him and prevents the ball-handler from getting comfortable. Coach Gathers on Warren: “Damieon is a very talented player with great potential. He does all of the little things that don’t show up on a box score, but have a big impact on the game. He is a winning team player who does it all.” Look for Warrum to emerge as a prospect heading in to his senior season.
#81: 6’1 ’21 Sidney Jefferies (Adams HS, South Bend, IN)
Lastly, we look at a playmaking guard who was not only able to create for himself but create for his teammates as well, Sidney Jefferies. Offensively, he showed the ability to score the ball at all three levels. His quickness, footwork and quick release time allowed him to get shots off over the defenders before a tight contest. Defensively, Jefferies can be a lock down defender when he puts his mind to it. Next in his development is continued improvement rebounding the ball. Given his size and athleticism, he could really open up the court and push the pace the more rebounds he is able to snag. Coach Gathers on Jefferies: “Sidney has supreme athleticism and has all of the tools that can make him a very special player. His work ethic can help him take things to the next level. He makes up for any minor mistake he made with show time finishes at the rim and strong defense.” Jefferies athleticism and natural ability will make him one to watch heading in to only his sophomore season.
