You’ve heard Phenom Hoops state “It’s not where you start, but where you finish” quite often and that quote can not be more fitting than 6’6 rising junior JP Moorman of Greensboro Day. Moorman has been a regular at the NC Phenom 150 camp over the past three years and each year he has gotten considerably better each time. As a matter of fact, Moorman earned an invite to the prestigious NC Top 80 event this past March and did not disappoint.

At the NC Top 80 event, we wrote, “JP Moorman simply knows how to play the game. He has been well coached and understands team defensive principles as well as any player in the state. JP has excellent size, strength and is very aggressive on both ends of the court. He has the ability to handle the ball in the open court and also be used as a secondary ball handler in half court situations. More importantly, we think JP is undervalued as a player and is a gifted player for his size/position.”

This past summer, Moorman’s play elevated his stock from a lower tier prospect to one that is now hearing from high major schools. All through the process, it has been his workmanlike approach that has been consistent. In speaking with Coach Freddy Johnson of Greensboro Day and defending NCISAA 3A state champions, he stated “ Moorman has the potential to be an impact player for GDS. People will be surprised by who offers him. He can play 1-4. In addition, he has worked hard to redefine his body.”

We happen to agree with Coach Johnson and Moorman will see a tremendous bounce in our new NC 2017 rankings. Not often does a player jump 20 plus spots but we feel Moorman is now a top 10 prospect in the state. Rarely do you find someone with his size and skill set, plus the ability to make plays and players better. For Moorman, he has progressed each year and his development is tracking interest from high majors for a reason.
