Day one of Phenom’s Grassroots Tip Off Live was quite the success. Kids compete, the baseline was full of college coaches and some newcomers stood out. With so many teams, there were five locations running simultaneous. This writing will take a look at the standouts from Proehlific Park
6’7” 2019 Josh Hall
Durham Hurricanes (NC)
Claimed Offers: Buffalo, Kennesaw St, Presbyterian, Rider, etc…
Not much left to be said about Hall. He put on an absolute show last night finishing with 26 points. However, it was the manner with which he scored his buckets. Standing at a lengthy 6’7” Hall is a true shooting guard who plays with a confidence/swagger. He has deep range and he has a nice handle from the wing, into a secondary ball handler. Hall got what he wanted last night, with Tubby Smith sitting courtside expect something to be coming soon.
6’4” 2019 Byrant Randleman
Durham Hurricanes (NC)
Claimed Offers: Hampton
Standing at a lengthy 6’4” Randleman touched the paint as often as he wanted here. Even while scoring a night high 28 points, Randleman did a great job of setting up teammates once there. He knocked down two 3-pointers and was the defensive catalyst using his quick twitch athleticism on the ball and go-go gadget arms in the passing lanes. The likes of Citadel and Longwood were watching and schools around that level and a level higher should be watching nightly.
6’7” 2019 Rajuan Conner
Charlotte Hoyas (NC)
Claimed Offers: NA
Welcome to the big stage Mr Conner. Perhaps no player made as much of an impact on the staff and coaches on night 1 as Conner. He is an absolute jumping jack, catching everything and trying to tear the rim off every single time he touches the ball. Conner has good defensive timing and showed the ability to put it on the floor to attack the rim. He plays in the same mold as a Zo Tyson and has that same type of momentum changing explosion. Get your cameras rolling and your offers ready to hand out here.
6’6” 2019 Isaac Mushila
Synergy Elite – Wamsley (WV)
Claimed Offers: NA
Mushila did a bit of everything, making all the winning plays. He finished with a game high 21 points to go along with 17 rebounds. He always seemed to be around the ball, on both ends of the floor. Mushila has great length and is able to defend the perimeter with good feet or the post with length and strength. This kid wins games and is a match up nightmare. As under the radar as they come, Lows should be sitting at every game making him a priority and Mids should be coming in to get their thoughts.
6’5” 2019 Brandon Murray
Team ENC (NC)
Claimed Offers: Lees McRae
The high academic Murray walks onto the floor passing the look test. He has broad shoulders and long arms, very projectable frame. Then you watch him shoot the ball and realize that his stroke is absolutely pure. He has deep range and an unwavering confidence, a confidence that saw him knock down the game winning 3 pointer, down 2 with no time on the clock. His game has expanded with his ability to get to the rim off the bounce. D1s need to be in watching, like VMI, Longwood and Citadel were. The likes of UNC-Pembroke and Mount Olive know he’s better than them, but they were front and center as well.
6’8” 2020 Nic McMullen
UA Team Felton (NC) 16s
Claimed Offers: NA
This unknown big man will not stay under the covers for much longer. The lefty has a smooth skill set that allows him to get downhill off the bounce, spot up from 18 feet and finish high above the rim both in transition and off post moves. Defensively he moves his feet well and is a natural rim protector. Mids and Highs will need to get in to see him and seeing that he is only a 2020, he looks like he is on a straight trajectory to the high major route.
6’3” Unsigned Senior Undray Cherry
Twin County Kings (NC)
Claimed Offers: NA
Cherry has all the tools. The length and explosive guard was comfortable both on and off the ball. He showed great court vision and delivered passes, both left and right handed, off the bounce. He knocked down 3 threes and finished high above the rim in transition. No offers and completely unknown, this could be one we see picking up a couple scholarship offers as coaches watch him throughout the weekend
6’10” 2019 David Eilen
Boo Williams Carolina (NC)
Claimed Offers: NA
The high academic Eilen has a high level skill set, one that translates and one that every college coach is looking for. Eilen is a high level rim and paint protector. He has natural timing with a quick jump and great length when blocking shots. He also is a strong, 2-handed rebounder, grabbing the ball at the apex of its trajectory. Still new to the game, Eilen’s best basketball is clearly ahead of him, but he finished last nights game with 11 blocks and 16 rebounds. With his size and ability can see him getting recruited all up and down the board. One thing is for certain, D1s like Rider, VMI, High Point, etc…who were in last night, need to continue coming in to watch him.
