When you have a grouping of talent in one gym, with a line of coaches watching, you are sure to have kids that break through or break out. That was certainly the case at CP3 Live.
With a host of coaches, from all levels, on the baseline here are some players that showed out:
Rechon Black
6’6” 2018 CP3
Black was forced to play double duty this weekend, playing for his normal CP3 15s, and also playing point guard for the CP3 17s team. Black has a great frame to go along with ball handling skills and perimeter touch. Black is a national Top 50 type with the upside to end up much higher. Expect his recruitment to be at the highest level.
JP Moorman
6’6” 2017 CP3
It has been quite a month for Moorman. With his play at Peach Jam, followed up with his performance at CP3 Live, Moorman’s recruitment has jumped from low major, to pushing high major. He carries offers from NC A&T, Maryland Eastern Shore, and Charlotte. Expect that list to continue to grow as this uniquely skilled point forward moves forward.
Jovantae Milner
6’6” 2016 Brand X
Last week Milner experienced a breakout in that colleges started recruiting him. However, in the Chris Paul Live he made a nice jump with the interest. Longwood Head Coach Jason Gee tracked every Milner move for two days, along with coaches from Winthrop and Gardner Webb, but Milner also picked up interest from Atlantic 10 school Richmond and Conference USAs Rice. There is no question that Milner is a D1 prospect, and the more who see him the more interest he picks up. See Milner again this week at Phenom Summer Havoc.
Chase Johnson
6’7” 2017 West Virginia Wildcats
Johnson had a little buzz coming into the weekend, but he was really put on with his play at CP3 Live. Johnson now has a Marshall offer and picked up high interest from Richmond, it will be interesting to see where his recruitment goes. Johnson is an explosive athlete with a sturdy frame and high motor. Those close to him also say he has an inch or two of growth left. As more people see him, expect his college list to grow. See Johnson again this week at Phenom Summer Havoc.
Marcus Watson
6’6” 2019 CP3
It was a unique week for Watson. Typically he plays on the number 1 nationally ranked CP3 14U team. This weekend however he filled in on the 17U squad. Not only did he play well, he led the team in scoring. Watson, a big wing with great pace, averaged 17 points per game, scoring at 3-levels. Expect his recruitment to be from the highest level.
Thank God Msughter
6’7” 2016 Fayetteville Elite
Msughter has been a name that we have known about for a while, but at CP3 Live he consistently produced. Msughter used his 7’2” wing span and 38” vertical to use with blocked shots, out of area rebounds, and finishes at the rim. Msughter also made his free throws here.
Christoff Nairn
6’2” 2016 Taylored Athletes
Nairn was a name we were not familiar with coming into the CP3 Live, however it is a name we cannot ignore as he leaves. He has heavy interest from Rider, and rightfully so. The combo guard has a good handle in the half court, and is a sturdily built 3-level scorer averaging 18 points per game for the event.
Devante Carter
6’3″ 2017 BWSL WAWG
The power point guard was an animal throughout the event. He relentlessly attacked the rim, and proved to be a consistent paint getter. Carter seemed to enjoy contact, but also showed the ability to find team mates. UCF, Providence, Tennessee, Rice, and many others also though Carter was very good. Look for the high majors to come calling soon.
