2022 6’0 Jacob Newman from Myers Park has been a name many are familiar with and the dual-sport prospect is starting to see an uptick in his interest levels from schools around the country on multiple levels.
Newman was a key part of the success at Myers Park this past season, as he showcased his ability to be effective on both ends of the court. Newman’s defensive impact really stood out on multiple occasions but his speed and quickness on the offensive end were just as impressive. He hounds opponents on the defensive end but he also gets downhill and attacks the rim, using his quick-twitch instincts to his advantage.
He continues though to put in the work this offseason, as Newman wants to work on his jump shot and leadership skills, but also continue to work even harder on the defensive side.
Coaches are recognizing his impact on the court as well, as schools like Virginia, Pittsburgh, South Florida, Mercer, Fairmont State, San Jose State, and Furman have all expressed interest his way.
“They like my speed, my quickness, IQ, and how well I get to the basket,” Newman told Phenom Hoops.
Coach Vandross from Virginia has had conversations with Newman, saying that they would be recruiting him while Coach Capel continues to stay in touch for Pittsburgh and Coach Dixon from USF talks to Newman on multiple occasions.
Newman looks to showcase his talent, even more, this summer and it looks like he has the attention of many, as it could become a big upcoming season for the 2022 guard at Myers Park.
