When a new coach comes into town, it may take some adjustment for their roster to catch on. Coach Jim Baker, coming from Central Cabarrus, brings a unique style that can be difficult to execute but after an early learning curve, it seems that Cannon has been hitting its stride. After starting the season winless, Cannon has been racking up the wins and putting on an offensive show.
First 6 Games:
0-6 record, Averaging 68 points per game offensively
Last 8 Games:
7-1, Averaging 97 points per game offensively.
This is a roster that started slow and had to adjust to their new system under head coach Jim Baker. But it seems that this roster has been adjusting quite well as of late, putting up impressive offensive stats behind their three leaders. 2026 Kenan Dixon has blossomed into a true scoring factor with his ability to get to his spots, create his own shot, and be a big threat from behind the arc. 2027 Kenan Dixon has taken the next step in his development, due to his growth in frame and understanding. He has shown a tremendous ability to make plays of the bounce and score from multiple levels, as well as play within the offense. And lastly, 2025 Evan Ingram is the veteran on the roster who brings a motor, competes in a variety of areas, uses his physicality to his advantage, and brings versatility to the court.
And that doesn’t mention the growth from others such as 2026 Gabriel Steinour, 2025 Jake Baker, and 2027 Matthew Sancho, as this group has elevated their play as well. Overall, Cannon seems to be finding its groove, showing just how tough they can be when their offense has it going. And going from 68 points per game to now averaging over 80+ points per game on the season, the Cougars are looking to be a team to be reckoned with Coach Baker leading the charge.
