Trey Thompson’s decision to reclassify to the Class of 2025 and commit to Iowa is a win for the Hawkeyes. A prospect with true upside, Thompson brings a unique blend of size and skill to the court, and we are eager to see what he can provide to the program. His early pledge not only solidifies Iowa’s recruiting momentum but also gives the program someone who looks to come in and contribute.

Thompson was a prospect that quickly jumped onto the national scene in the last year or so, but he has been an impressive standout on several occasions beforehand with Phenom Hoops. Thompson is a forward that brings a strong and versatile feel to the court with his feel and ability to operate down inside, but also be able to truly stretch the floor. Now heading to Iowa a year before, Thompson will be interesting to follow. Personally, I think Thompson is one that can provide positive minutes early on but is one who will only continue to grow, get stronger, and dive more into his role even more with the program. Here is what we had to say a few years ago when we first watched Thompson, and we were also able to catch up with him to see why Iowa was the place for him in the end.

What Has Been Said:

“Thompson is a player who should AUTOMATICALLY be on so many schools’ radars, and he showed that throughout this weekend. Maybe considered the best big at the event, Thompson showed everything in his arsenal with his game. He has a tremendous skill set overall with great knowledge and feel for the game, excellent footwork, and a strong feel around the basket. He is also excellent on the boards, playing with relentless energy and motor. However, what makes him so unique is his ability to stretch the floor with a TON of confidence, knocking down three after three after three with confidence. Thompson can hurt you in so many ways, and though he holds two offers right now, that list should immediately increase this summer and quickly.”
