Somehow 6’6” Eli Lake has gone under the radar. He attends Blythewood High School which is the sixth (6th) largest school in the state of South Carolina. He played AAU for the Carolina Wolves, who play on the Under Armour circuit. He has played in a lot of games, which have had a lot of coaches watching him.
However, it wasn’t until July, at the Phenom Havoc on the Hardwood, that he started to pick up offers from D1 schools. This week, Lake committed to the Naval Academy, over other offers from USC Upstate and Coastal Carolina.
He is a lengthy wing, carries a 6’8” wing span, who battles on the boards and scraps on defense. Lake is a sharp shooter, who works hard off the ball, to get open and has touch with deep range and releases the ball quickly.
Lake has been to numerous Phenom events over the years, let’s review what we’ve said:

#187 6’6 2016 Eli Lake of Blythewood HS (SC)
Eli is a new comer to the Phenom Platform and the big stage. We first saw Eli as he participated in the Havoc on the Hardwood event where he displayed good shooting touch and IQ. Well since July, Eli has grown 2 inches and grown in both strength and confidence. Camp Coach Marcus Stevenson stated, “Eli has a great basketball IQ and scores the ball very well.” As he continues to improve his lateral movement and strength expect Eli to make a jump in the South Carolina class rankings and his D1 interest to continue to grow.

6’6” 2016 Eli Lake of Carolina Wolves
He played a great role for the ultra athletic Carolina Wolves team. He showed to be a shot maker off the catch. Friday night though, he also showed the ability to finish in the mid-range and to rebound his position. Lake had coaches talking about the shooting performance Friday night.

#70 6’6” 2017 Eli Lake of Blythewood High School
Because of his size, Lake inevitably gets caught guarding the opposing team’s post players. He carries great length and a high motor on defense that allows him to do so. However, make no mistake about it Lake is a shooting guard at the next level. Lake has soft touch with deep range and the ability to get his shot off quickly. Lake’s camp coach Jerome Stewart stated, “Eli is going to have to bulk up but his soft hands and touch are a major strength.” Lake can score at all three levels, rebounds his position well, and can create for himself. With claimed offers from USC-Upstate, Navy, and Coastal Carolina, more D1 schools need to be getting in the game.
In 2015 Navy brought in seven (7) commitments. Lake is the third commitment in Navy’s 2016 class. He joins Pennsylvania power forward Ryan Reagan and Ohio point guard Kyran McClure.
