With the direction basketball has shifted over the last decade, traditional point guards are becoming something of a dying breed. Someone like Rajon Rondo, for example, came through at the perfect time to maximize his NBA production. Had he gone through high school in 2020 rather than 2004, things would’ve likely been drastically different for the multi-time All-Star. Is Hamilton Campbell comparable to Rajon Rondo' Not quite, but their passer-friendly identities are what classifies them under the same umbrella. So, let’s take a closer look at the point guard prospect…

After transferring to Moravian Prep Regional from Grundy, Virginia, Campbell’s role and abilities have never wavered as a primary decision-maker for this group. He’s consistently among the most vocal players on his team and offers strong leadership as an offensive catalyst. While his slight frame and unorthodox shooting mechanics might be unsettling for some, it’s pretty much completely negated through his IQ, passing vision, and sheer instincts for making the right play at all times. Though it might seem common for someone to average nearly double-digit assists on an extremely talented roster, what Campbell is doing is actually extremely impressive. He displays quickness, toughness, and genuinely makes his teammates better. It would be one thing if his assist totals were coming off standard, simple reads, but Campbell is constantly accessing and exploiting incredibly difficult angles to make ridiculously sharp passes—which he’s showcased since our first viewing over two years ago.

Fast-forward to now, Campbell is operating as the primary floor general for Moravian Prep National and making others better against even better competition. Since he’s in the Class of 2022 after reclassifying, college coaches should be pursuing him with increased haste. From afar, it seems unfair for his teammates to gain overwhelming amounts of interest and offers while the setup man is pushed aside. However, it’s a long road and Campbell still has ample time to prove himself to college coaches as a clear asset at the next level.
