Coming into the season, there’s no doubt that folks had lofty expectations for Ambassador Christian’s potential success—both internally and throughout the state. However, things did not start as the masses expected. Although they faced stiff competition and didn’t have a lot of time to iron out the cohesion, the Lions started the season 1-3. They fought to get to 5-5, but then suffered a five-game skid against several notable opponents. However, after winning seven straight, this group seems to be gradually figuring things out. Although they have a tough road ahead, they certainly have the pieces to compete with anyone. Let’s take a look…

Unsurprisingly, RJ Moore transferred in and immediately became the focal point of this group. Between his size, athleticism, and exceptional scoring polish, he has the tools to completely dominate opponents. Moore can score the ball in virtually every possible way. He shows the ability to attack the basket, hit jumpers off the catch or bounce, post up smaller players, or find opportunities without the ball in his hands. Moore puts pressure on the rim and displays deep range from beyond the arc, but also mixes it up enough to keep defenses constantly guessing. He also possesses rebounding prowess, defensive instincts, and capable playmaking ability. Given his current trajectory, Moore should appeal to all types of college coaches.

This balanced group has a variety of meaningful contributors, and Tyler Brown has shown growth as a two-way big man. He’s long, wiry, and explosive, which allows him to utilize his athleticism to create advantages for himself around the basket. Brown is at his most effective when blocking shots, playing hard to outwork opponents on the glass, and filling the lane in transition. He’s a capable finisher and lob threat but doesn’t require touches to impact a game. College coaches should be monitoring Brown as he continues to get stronger and refine his game.

Although he probably doesn’t receive enough attention from the masses, Judah King is a vital x-factor for the Lions. He consistently does all the little things and thankless work. King is a smart, unselfish, low-maintenance guard who dictates the action, defends the point of attack, and fills in the gaps wherever necessary. King simply knows how to impact the game, and that’s evidenced by his approach on a nightly basis.

Similar to his teammate above, Jeremiah Franklin really excels at providing whatever this group needs. He’s a natural glue-guy with the IQ, size, and versatility to operate in a variety of different roles. Franklin is a capable initiator, playmaker, and scorer from all levels. He’s somewhat of a swiss army knife with his ability to affect all facets of the game. Franklin is a reliable rebounder and switchable defender who can guard three or four positions comfortably. His malleable, adaptable game makes him incredibly valuable for the Lions.

Given his consistent flashes throughout the season, it’s clear that Nick Haney gives this squad a nice change of pace. He’s a well-rounded guard who can create his own shot or find opportunities without the ball in his hands. Haney scores the ball from multiple levels, but can also defend and set up others as needed.

Guys like Zeke Kelly and Kenan Dixon provide quality contributions within their respective roles. Both are capable shooters and initiators who can toggle between playing with or without the ball. Each guy defends with energy and toughness.
