Taking visits to college programs can always be an exciting time for a prospect. But when you visit and come home with an offer, it just makes it that much more special. That is exactly what happened to 2016 Mike Boykin from Trinity Christian/ Garner Road AAU on Wednesday, as he took a visit to Barton College.

“My family and I really enjoyed the visit today,” he told Phenom Hoops. “I love the campus, it was great. Everything from basketball to family to admissions (talking about what he spoke about with the staff at Barton). They told me anytime I wanted to come up there for any games or practices, that I could. They really stressed academcis and I really liked that.”

It seemed that the coaching staff from Barton is high on Boykin, as they wanted him to sign early but it just wasn’t time for him to commit to any school.

Boykin holds offers from Lees McRae and Fayetteville State, along with Barton, while schools like Catawba, UNC Pembroke, Emory & Henry, Randolph, and Guilford College.

As mentioned before, Boykin isn’t ready to make a commitment to a school but he knows what he is looking for when it comes to a future team.

“(I’m looking for) a team I can call my brothers and they are all about winning,” he replied.

Phenom Hoops spoke with Jay Creecy from Garner Road, as he is very high on his guard from this past summer.

“Mike is an explosive scoring lead guard who is developing as a floor general. His has range out to the three point line but his strength is getting to the lane. He is very strong defender and a solid rebounder from the guard position. He also excels in transition as well in the half court, particularly in a pick and roll situation. He is a humble kid with solid family, who works hard and wants to improve.”
